Khumani Mine: Engineering Learnership Opportunities 2025

Khumani Mine, operating in the heart of the Southern Kalahari approximately 29 km from Kathu on the N14, is inviting suitably qualified, motivated, and committed individuals to apply for its Engineering Learnership Programmes for 2025. These opportunities are external only and targeted at developing life-long technical skills that benefit not just individual career growth, but also families and local communities.

What is the Purpose of the Learnerships?

The 18.2 Engineering Learnership Programmes are designed to equip candidates with artisan-level trades in engineering. Applicants will receive structured training and exposure to foundational skills that are in demand across mining, manufacturing, and broader technical sectors. The programme supports both personal development and regional skills upliftment.

Fields of Training

Candidates can indicate interest in any of the following trades:

  • Instrumentation Mechanician
  • Plater/Welder
  • Fitter
  • Electrician
  • Millwright

(Be sure to clearly specify on your application which artisan trade you are applying for.)

Minimum Entry Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic: A Grade 12 certificate including Mathematics and Science. For certain trades, an N2 Engineering certificate is required in the relevant discipline.
  • Personal & Practical: Good communication skills (written and verbal), strong interpersonal skills, basic computer literacy, and a valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.
  • Assessments & Fitness: Candidates must complete assessments (psychometric, aptitude, mathematics, language, etc.) and be certified medically fit under the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).

Preference will be given to applicants from Gamagara and John Taolo Gaetsewe municipal areas in the Northern Cape, aligning with local development priorities.
