About the ARC Bacteriology Internship 2025
The ARC-OVR is offering an exciting opportunity for three (3) graduates to join its Bacteriology Division on a two-year fixed-term contract.
This programme is designed to provide practical laboratory training and professional exposure in the fields of veterinary and microbiological research. Interns will work alongside industry experts while gaining advanced skills in microbiology and molecular diagnostics that support animal health and public health research.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Collect and process samples at abattoirs.
- Receive, catalogue, and organise laboratory specimens.
- Prepare and manage laboratory reagents.
- Conduct microbiological, serological, and molecular assays for bacterial detection and identification.
- Maintain detailed laboratory records and compile reports.
Internship Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- A BSc Honours degree in Microbiology, Animal Health, or a related field.
- Knowledge of microbiology, serology, and PCR techniques.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver’s license will serve as an added advantage.
Additional Information
- The internship runs for two years on a fixed-term contract.
- A competitive remuneration package will be offered.
- Appointment is subject to security clearance.
- Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups in line with the ARC Employment Equity Plan.
- Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation report.
