About the ATNS Trainee Programme 2025 / 2026

ATNS is offering 117 bursary trainee opportunities for young South Africans who are eager to build a career in air traffic management. Successful candidates will study at the Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park, Gauteng, where they will receive in-depth theoretical and practical training.

Once trainees complete their programme, they will be placed according to the operational requirements of the organisation. The programme offers comprehensive exposure to air traffic operations, preparing graduates for highly specialised roles in aviation.

Available Training Streams

The ATNS Trainee Programme is divided into several specialised streams, namely:

  • Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  • Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
  • Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  • Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
  • Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following entry requirements to qualify:

  • A Grade 12/Matric certificate with:
    • Pure Mathematics (Level 4 / HG – D or SG – C or higher)
    • English (Level 4 / HG – D or SG – C or higher)
  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
  • Must be medically fit and willing to undergo ATNS’s medical assessment (for the ATSO stream)
  • Must attach Grade 12 results to the application
  • Must be willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
  • Must be an unemployed South African youth

Important Note: Candidates who have previously participated in a similar ATNS programme will not be considered.
