Internship Overview
The Disaster Management Internship Programme provides practical work exposure to graduates, offering training in disaster risk reduction and operational support in disaster management. Interns will gain hands-on experience by assisting with incident response, stakeholder coordination, community awareness campaigns, and administrative functions within the Division: Disaster Management.
Job Purpose
Successful candidates will play an active role in:
- Assisting with responses to incidents and disasters.
- Compiling and submitting Disaster Management reports.
- Coordinating stakeholder engagements and communication.
- Supporting the roll-out of Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives.
- Liaising with role-players on incidents, risk assessments, and early warning systems.
- Assisting in training and awareness programmes for communities.
- Providing general administrative support to the Division.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- National Diploma or Degree in Disaster Management, Public Administration, Office Administration, or a related qualification.
- Certified copy of academic records and results sheet.
- Valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GIS – ability to use Google Earth is required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- Physically fit and able to work in inclement weather conditions.
