Department of Employment and Labour Graduate Internships 2025/2026

The Department of Employment and Labour (Compensation Fund) has officially opened applications for its Graduate Internship Programme 2025/2026, a two-year initiative designed to provide South African graduates with hands-on work exposure in line with their qualifications. This programme is an excellent opportunity for unemployed youth to gain workplace skills, build professional experience, and contribute meaningfully to the department’s mandate.


About the Internship Programme

The internship runs for 24 months from the date of appointment. Selected graduates will be placed in different divisions of the department, where they will gain structured on-the-job training, mentorship, and exposure to daily operations. The aim is to develop young professionals into skilled employees who can thrive in both the public and private sector.

Applicants must be unemployed, have never taken part in an internship before, and possess a relevant qualification as outlined in the different streams below.

1. Supply Chain Management: Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management / Logistics.
Duties: Assist with delivering Supply Chain Management services.

2. Employer Services: Employer Registration (Tariffs) Internship

Reference No: HR 5/1/2/3/74
Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Business Management / Business Administration / Public Management / Public Administration / Operations Management.
Duties: Facilitate receipt of new registration forms, investigate sub-classes on existing files, process changes to employer information, and handle applications for business nature updates.

3. Employer Services: Employer Registration (Index) Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Business Management / Business Administration / Public Management / Public Administration / Operations Management.
Duties: Support employer registration, update master data, capture employer banking details, and conduct quality assurance checks.

4. Employer Services: Employer Registration (Quality Assurance) Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Business Management / Business Administration / Public Management / Public Administration / Operations Management.
Duties: Conduct quality assurance on employer registrations, captured data, and business changes.

5. Employer Assessment (Large Account) Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Financial Accounting / Internal Audit / Financial Management.
Duties: Assist with verifying employer earnings declarations, reviewing assessments, auditing records, and digitising workflows.

6. Employer Compliance Internship

Duties: Support compliance audits, gather employer information, verify documentation, liaise with stakeholders, and monitor compliance progress.

7. Statutory Services Internship

Requirements: LLB / BA Law.
Duties: Draft court papers and compliance notices, support enforcement matters, and manage statutory case files.

8. Internal Audit Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Internal Audit / Cost and Management Accounting / Financial Accounting / Accounting Sciences / Financial Management / Information Systems Audit.
Duties: Assist in conducting audits (operational, compliance, ICT, and performance), perform quality assurance, and support audit committee secretariat functions.

9. Treasury and Investment Management Internship

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Financial Accounting / Management Accounting / Financial & Investment Management / Auditing.
Duties: Assist with financial reconciliations, investment journals, cash flow management, performance analysis, and reporting.

10. Medical Billing and Clinical Coding Internship

Duties: Validate and capture medical invoices, assist with audits, publish tariffs in gazettes, and manage billing administration.

Duties: Validate medical invoices, process refunds and travel claims, and resolve enquiries.

Duties: General office administration within the medical benefits unit.


Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the Department of Employment and Labour Graduate Internships, applicants must:
