Eskom Graduate in Training 2026: Apply Now for Architecture and Quantity Surveying Programmes

If you have been sitting on a fresh qualification and wondering what comes next, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for. Eskom is calling on young South African graduates to apply for its Graduate in Training 2026 programme, with openings in Architectural Studies and Quantity Surveying/Construction Studies. Both positions are based at Megawatt Park in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, and carry a closing date of 21 May 2026. Do not sleep on this one.

What Is the Eskom Graduate in Training Programme?

The Eskom Graduate in Training programme is a structured 24-month development initiative designed to bridge the gap between your university qualification and the world of work. It combines institutionalised learning with hands-on, on-the-job training, giving you real exposure to one of Africa’s largest energy utilities. This is not a box-ticking internship. It is a deliberate, career-building experience that puts you inside the operations of Eskom’s Real Estate Centre of Excellence.

Two positions are currently open under this cycle:

  • Graduate in Training X1 (Quantity Surveying/Construction Studies) Reference Number: 50946108CD
  • Graduate in Training X2 (Architectural Studies) Reference Number: 50946126CD

Both roles fall under the Eskom Real Estate Business Unit and are graded at Position/Task Grade L07.

Who Can Apply?

Eskom keeps the entry bar clear and accessible for recent graduates. Here is what you need to qualify for each position.

For Quantity Surveying/Construction Studies:

  • A BSc or B Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Studies at NQF Level 7 with 360 credits
  • No prior work experience is required

For Architectural Studies:

  • A BSc or B Degree in Architectural Studies or Architectural Technology at NQF Level 7 with 360 credits
  • No prior work experience is required

If you completed your degree and have not yet worked in your field professionally, you are exactly who Eskom is looking for.

What Will You Be Doing?

Each stream has a distinct focus, so your day-to-day will depend on which programme you join.

Quantity Surveying/Construction Studies graduates will be involved in engineering designs and technical solutions within the Eskom Real Estate space. The work touches on areas such as:

  • Cost engineering and management
  • Risk management in construction projects
  • Contracts management
  • Project planning and scheduling
  • Quantity surveying principles in a real-world energy environment

Architectural Studies graduates will provide professional support to the Real Estate Centre of Excellence, working alongside engineering design leads and project managers. You can expect to be involved in:

  • Computer-aided drafting (CAD) work
  • Architectural design for complex buildings
  • Building maintenance and refurbishment projects
  • Technical report writing
  • Project management support
  • Staying current with the latest building industry technological developments

Skills and Qualities Eskom Is Looking For

Beyond the qualification, Eskom wants graduates who bring more than a degree to the table. Both programmes look for candidates who demonstrate:

  • A collaborative, team-player mindset
  • Professionalism and integrity in everything they do
  • Resilience and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Problem-solving ability and sound analytical thinking
  • A genuine drive to learn and grow

For the Architectural Studies stream, being computer literate across Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Projects is also important.

Why This Opportunity Matters for South African Youth

South Africa’s youth unemployment rate remains one of the most pressing challenges the country faces. Structured graduate programmes like the Eskom Graduate in Training 2026 are among the most effective pathways from education into meaningful employment. They give you a salary, mentorship, a professional network, and a track record, all things that make your next career move significantly easier.

Being part of Eskom Real Estate also exposes you to large-scale infrastructure and construction work that very few young professionals get to see up close this early in their careers. The knowledge and contacts you build over 24 months inside this environment are genuinely valuable.
