Gauteng Department of Education is Hiring Examinations Assistants and Quality Assurers 2025

The Gauteng Department of Education is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the Examinations Assistants / Quality Assurers Programme 2025. This opportunity is designed for unemployed youth, graduates, and students currently registered at tertiary institutions who are eager to gain valuable experience in examinations administration.

Examinations Assistants – Key Responsibilities

Examinations Assistants will work in Exams District Offices and Head Offices, supporting the handling and flow of scripts throughout the marking process. Duties include:

  • Receiving, checking, controlling, and scanning scripts daily, and packing them for marking
  • Ensuring that each batch has the correct number of scripts and marksheets per subject, paper, and exam session
  • Addressing any discrepancies related to scripts and batches
  • Preparing bags of scripts with the MP Flow control list of contents and the correct marking venue tags
  • Creating marking centre files and assisting with dispatching scripts to marking centres
  • Archiving scripts after marking, ensuring they are easily retrievable when required

Quality Assurers – Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurers will work at Marking Centres and will play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the marking process. Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving, controlling, and distributing scripts to marking teams
  • Verifying the correct number of scripts and marksheets per batch during marking
  • Controlling, distributing, and scanning scripts for records
  • Checking that all questions are marked, and that marks are correctly calculated and transferred to coversheets
  • Addressing marking discrepancies with teams and ensuring corrections are applied
  • Reconciling and arranging scripts per subject and paper, then archiving them systematically

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum qualification: Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate / NCV
  • Only registered tertiary students, unemployed persons with one or more tertiary qualifications, and unemployed graduates may apply
  • Strong numerical skills, with Mathematics / Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level
  • Advantage given to second-year tertiary students and above
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Previous experience in examinations administration (District Office, Marking Centre, or Office-based) should be clearly indicated in the application

Important Notes

  • Applicants writing the National Senior Certificate / Senior Certificate and AET Examinations in 2025 may not apply
  • VSP beneficiaries and individuals employed elsewhere are not eligible
