Anglo American has an exciting opportunity for a General Accountant. The purpose of this role is to Meticulously manage financial records, conduct internal audits, facilitate risk management, ensure regulation compliance, and provide valuable financial insights to contribute to the organization’s fiscal health and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Safety, Health, and Environment
- Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
- Support good housekeeping in the broader department and on-site.
- Participate in safety initiatives (e.g. VFLs) as required.
- Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
- Performance and Delivery
- Maintain: Keep accurate and up-to-date financial records and ledgers.
- Prepare: Compile and generate financial statements, reports, and analyses.
- Reconcile: Ensure the accuracy of financial data by reconciling accounts and transactions.
- Review: Scrutinize financial documents for errors, discrepancies, and regulation compliance.
- Analyse: Evaluate financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Monitor: Track financial transactions, expenditures, and budget adherence.
- Assist:
- Assist the line manager with the completion of the Annual Insurance Questionnaire Report – K1002
- Support internal audits by liaising with assurance providers (ABAS) and ensuring the Annual Assurance Plan is reviewed and communicated to key stakeholders, i.e., SLT.
- Assist users in resolving SAP Release Strategy (DAF) enquiries.
- Coordinate: Coordinate audits by obtaining the Audit Program Memorandum (APM) and distributing it to control owners. Set up Opening and Closing Meetings with relevant control owners (HODs).
- Follow up: Follow up on management comments for inclusion in the audit report.
- Obtain Senior Management approval (sign-off) on the Final Report for submission to assurance providers (ABAS).
- Log: Log all audit observations and track for timely closure of all open actions.
- Risk Management: Set up risk register update sessions with control owners (HODs).
- Compliance:
- Provide administrative support for the review of the Legal Appointment Standard.
- Assist the line manager with the update/review of regulatory reports, i.e., Legal Appointment and Permit registers, and submit them to the line manager timely.
Qualifications
- Relevant National Diploma Accounting/ Commercial Degree (NQF6)
- Relevant Accounting/ Commercial Degree (NQF7)
- SA Drivers Licence
Technical
- Knowledge
- Knowledge gained from 3-5 years of operational experience in financial record keeping, internal audits, and risk management in an economic environment.
- Advanced knowledge of key value drivers across the mining value chain and the interdependence as related to accounting.
- Understanding management standards and processes.
- Familiarity with Risk Management systems and Risk, Auditing and Compliance principles
