About the position

SARS is looking for strong, focused and skilled individuals who can scan the organisation and environment to develop and provide strategic direction. The role requires strong technical knowledge and capability and the candidate must be able to analyse data and prepare reports and presentations were required. The candidate must be able to work well within a team or individually but must most of all be able to multi task. A strong tax knowledge would be advantageous so as to develop strategy around specific tax products as required

The candidate will analyze big datasets for taxpayer / 3rd party suspicious behaviour and/or submissions (registrations / submissions / information updating) and identify new / changing risk trends to facilitate strategic risk mitigation design, implementation, monitoring, and support as well as decision making, or reporting based on the mandate of the area to meet the strategic objectives of SARS.

Job Purpose

To ensure effective management of the information life cycle or value chain that includes the identification, analysis and development of information assets and the assessment of business information needs.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

• Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Computer Sciences (NQF 7) AND 6 years’ experience in a similar data & business analytics environment, with 3 years’ experience developing Power BI reports.
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate will be an added advantage.

• Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 10 years’ experience in data & business analytics environment, with 3 years’ experience developing Power BI reports.
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate will be an added advantage.

Minimum Functional Requirements

• Experience in Data Engineering / Business Data Intelligence / Data Science
• Intermediate (practical application) technical expertise regarding data processes, data cleaning, analysis, reporting, data models, and database design and testing
• Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (SQL or equivalent, etc), databases (SQL etc.), programming (SQL, R, Python, etc.)
• Intermediate (practical application) knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R etc.)
• Intermediate (practical application) Data warehouse knowledge
• Be proficient in the application of:
  • Basic Data Migration
  • Basic Data Visualization        
  • Business Intelligence Methodologies
  • Database Knowledge
• Intermediate (practical application) Programming Skills – i.e. SQL, and/or Python, R, etc.
• Microsoft skills (Proficient in)– i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
