About the Student Phlebotomy Technician Programme

Minimum Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

  • Mathematics: Level 3 (40%–49%) OR Mathematical Literacy: Level 4 (50%–59%)

  • Experience: 0–1 year relevant work experience
  • Skills: Basic computer literacy, knowledge of phlebotomy procedures

Programme Structure and Key Duties

The learnership provides a combination of classroom training, workplace practice, and professional development. Learners will:

  • Attend formal lectures, practical training sessions, and assignments
  • Prepare for and write the HPCSA board examination
  • Fulfil all contractual obligations of the learnership
  • Collect venous and capillary blood samples, along with other non-blood specimens
