In this position, the incumbent will be accountable to organise transportation activities, manage information accrued from point of origin to delivery, orchestrate transportation movements and arrange for services as required. He/she will perform ongoing evaluation and review of transportation arrangements for constant improvement opportunities. He/She will ensure the product reaches the destinations safely, securely, and on-time.

  • Identify the best cost effective procedure of transportation to optimize efficiency of the cylinder distribution and present status reports to improve, supervise logistics order performance and ensure compliance in terms of working conditions and transport relations.
  • Be part of a team of planners, drivers and local customer support to efficiently and consistently deliver high levels of customer service whilst optimizing costs.
  • Responsible for cylinders and hard goods logistics planning of all depots and hubs in the region. Optimise logistics planning process in order to meet customer requirements, while respecting safety, health, environment issues, for the best economic performance.
  • Plan efficiently for both Primary and Secondary deliveries, daily communication of secondary delivery plan per depot and weekly stock management at depot level. Ensure that daily planning is managed in order to optimise product availability and customer satisfaction.
  • Recommend most efficient means of transportation needs and procedures and support monthly summary of transporter scorecard reports along with tracking metrics. Conduct comparison analysis and present monthly reports to management on data performance to plan. Perform ongoing evaluation and review of transportation arrangements for constant improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure promotion of efficient handling of cylinders in a safe manner and manage IMS requirements applicable to the department. Execute logistics plan to move products and packages to reach destinations on schedule
  • Manage the Transport Sub-Contractor daily operations with regards to daily trip recons (KM and hours), non-deliveries, vehicle maintenance, cost validation, spot vehicle hire (ZERO BUDGET), enter cylinder distribution stats, capturing trip sheets and control manual delivery note book. Ensure delivery note check list submitted/receipt to transport company/depot. Perform any other reasonable task that may be required or requested in order to achieve the objectives and purpose of the position

Educational requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Industrial Engineering
  • Matric Certificate

Experience

  • 3 years road transportation experience
  • 3 years in distribution management
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Inventory management experience

Knowledge and Know-how specific to the job

  • Knowledge of Navision system
  • Knowledge in supply chain management (logistics, route planning, tracking and systems)
  • Knowledge of cylinder specifications and cylinder products.
  • Knowledge of logistics systems
  • Knows how to establish work plans, efficiently allocates or makes use of available resources, act according to plans and establishes priorities
