Dear Applicant,

Thank you for applying to the Kouga Wind Farm Bursary Programme for the 2024 academic year.

Please complete this form in full in accordance with the instructions below and submit it with the supporting documents listed before the closing date:

  • Closing date for applications: 12 January 2024.
  • Applications are strictly online and are to be submitted before 16h00 of the closing date mentioned above.

Definitions of terms

  1. First-time applicant: ALL applicants who have never been funded by the KWF Bursary, including those who applied in previous years but were unsuccessful. 
  2. 2023 Beneficiary: students who were funded by the KWF Bursary in the 2023 academic year. 
  3. Trade School: institutions that offer skills training and specialised courses such as Electrical, Plumbing, Building, Motor Mechanic, Culinary, etc.

Bursary Scope

Financial assistance will be granted to students on a yearly basis, i.e. students will be required to submit a new application each year of their qualification. Students’ academic performance will be taken into consideration when reviewing funding applications for the following year(s).

Kouga Wind Farm Bursary will cover part or full costs of the following for your studies depending on the need:

  • Registration Fees
  • Tuition Fees
  • Prescribed study material
  • Accommodation
  • Stipend

In addition to the above, each student will have a mentor throughout the duration of their studies that the Kouga Wind Farm Bursary funds.

Bursary Criteria:

  • Applicants who are currently registered or have been provisionally accepted to study towards an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate at a public university or TVET/FET college. Please note that we do not fund postgraduate qualifications.
  • Applicants who reside in KwaNomzamo, Umzamowethu, Sea Vista and Kruisfontein.
  • Applicants who want to acquire a trade skill from a training institution or college that offers skills and specialised courses such as electrical work, plumbing, building, motor mechanic, culinary, etc. 
  • Applicants who are under 29 years of age.
  • Applicants whose parents/guardians have a combined household income that does not exceed R350 000 per annum.

Current Beneficiaries Requirements

  • Returning beneficiaries must have passed at least 75% of their 2023 academic year modules.
  • Must have completed 50 hours of community service on time in 2023.
  • ALL beneficiaries also need to reapply to be considered for 2024 funding.

Supporting Documents for New Applicants

  • Copy of South African ID document.
  • Copy of Grade 12 Certificate/Statement of Results (if completed Grade 12 in 2023 or earlier).
  • Copy of Grade 11 Final and most recent Grade 12 Results (if you are doing Grade 12 year in 2024).
  • Copy of full academic record from University/College (if you are currently or have been enrolled at a tertiary institution).
  • Letter of provisional acceptance from University/College.
  • Proof of Income and/or confirmation of parents’ employment status not older than 6 months
    • Payslips for both parents.
    • If one or both parents are unemployed, an employment affidavit signed by a Commissioner of Oath must be submitted. This applies to both parents.
    • If one or both parents are deceased, a copy of their death certificate(s) must be submitted with this application.
  • Proof of address (parent’s municipal bill/ letter from ward councillor / affidavit)
  • Certified copy of a SASSA letter if any of your family members are receiving a social grant and are also contributing to your household income. This also applies to your guardian.
  • Parents’ 3 months bank statements (please attach bank statements for both parents)

Supporting Documents for Returning Beneficiaries 

  • Full Academic Record.
  • Proof of Income and or confirmation of parents’ employment status not older than 6 months
    • Payslips for both parents.
    • If one or both parents are unemployed, an employment affidavit signed by a Commissioner of Oath must be submitted. This applies to both parents.
    • If one or both parents are deceased, a copy of their death certificate(s) must be submitted with this application.
  • Parent’s 3 months bank statement (please attach bank statements for both parents)
