The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has opened applications for a Corporate Communication Internship based in Centurion, Gauteng. This is a genuine opportunity for young South Africans who have recently completed a degree and are looking for a structured, professional environment where they can grow their skills and build a meaningful career foundation.

The RAF Corporate Communication Internship runs for eighteen months on a fixed-term contract basis. Successful candidates will earn a stipend of R96,000.00 for the duration of the programme. The closing date for applications is 12 May 2026, so if this sounds like you, it is time to act now.

Who Can Apply

This internship is targeted at unemployed graduates between the ages of 18 and 25 who have never previously participated in an internship programme in a related field and have not been employed in the field of the post before. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Communication, Media Studies, Public Relations, or Marketing.

In addition to your qualification, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your Grade 12 or Matric certificate
  • A certified copy of your identity document
  • A certified copy of your academic transcript (applications without a transcript will not be considered)
  • A concise CV and motivational letter of no more than three pages

What You Will Be Doing

This is not a position where you will be making coffee and filing papers. The RAF Corporate Communication Internship is designed to expose you to real, hands-on work across several exciting areas of communication. You could find yourself writing and distributing internal communications to keep employees informed and engaged. You may support media relations work, including drafting press releases, monitoring media coverage, and helping to maintain the Fund’s public profile.

You will also get to work on marketing campaigns and brand initiatives, helping to roll out promotional materials that raise public awareness of the RAF and its work. Digital skills are very much part of the package too. Social media management, content creation, online community engagement, and even videography, photography, and design may all form part of your day-to-day experience.

This kind of broad exposure is rare in entry-level positions, and it is a real advantage for any young person trying to build a versatile communication portfolio.

Skills and Attributes the RAF is Looking For

The Fund wants candidates who bring more than just a qualification to the table. They are looking for interns who communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, who pay close attention to detail, and who take initiative without waiting to be told what to do. You should be self-motivated, good with computers, and able to manage your tasks and priorities sensibly.

Interpersonal skills matter too. You will be working within a professional team and engaging with various stakeholders, so your ability to build relationships and work collaboratively is something the selection panel will be paying attention to.

How to Apply

To apply for the RAF Corporate Communication Internship, submit your application online here with reference number 6590 and clearly indicate the province (Gauteng) on the subject line. You may apply for up to three different internship positions at the RAF, but you must submit a separate application for each reference number.

Please note that all prospective employees will be subjected to security vetting. If you hold a foreign qualification, you are required to have it evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.

The RAF subscribes to the principles of employment equity and preference will be given to persons with disabilities.

If you have not heard back from the RAF within six weeks of the closing date, you may consider your application unsuccessful.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Breaking into the communications industry in South Africa can feel overwhelming, especially when most employers want experience but are unwilling to give you the chance to get it. The RAF is one of those institutions that genuinely invests in young people, and an 18-month programme gives you enough time to develop real confidence and competence in your field.

Whether your passion lies in social media, journalism, public relations, or brand management, this internship touches all of those areas. Graduates who complete the programme leave with a credible employer on their CV, practical skills they can demonstrate, and a professional network that can open further doors.

Do not let this one pass you by. The deadline is 12 May 2026.
