Gallagher Scholar candidates are citizens of South Africa who reflect academic achievement and evidence of leadership potential. Race, gender, and religion are not considered as factors in scholarship selection. Nine Candidates will be selected to interview with Gallagher Foundation representatives.
Individuals selected as candidates for the Gallagher Scholarship meet the following criteria:
Gallagher Scholar candidates possess and show evidence of unusual intelligence and ability:
- Admitted to UCT with final acceptance received
- Admitted into a 4 year (or 6 year medical) program
- Academic excellence shown on the National Benchmark test in all competency areas
A Gallagher Scholar candidate shows evidence of a high level of ethical values, which include:
- Belief that progress can be achieved without violence
- Commitment to making a difference in their country
- Traits which align with the Gallagher Foundation Traits of Distinguished Leaders
Gallagher Scholar candidates display evidence of leadership potential in their involvement in leadership activities including, but not limited to:
- Special projects
- Awards received
- Extracurricular activities
- Service work
Gallagher Scholar candidates come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds displaying evidence of financial need.
