The Railway Safety Regulator Bursaries for school leavers and students currently studying or wish to pursue undergraduate studies

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a public entity established under Section 4 of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act No.16 of 2002 as amended. The RSR’s core mandate is to oversee and enforce safety performance across all railway operators in South Africa, including those from neighboring states whose rail operations extend into the country.

Bursary Programme

The RSR invites South African school leavers and students aged 15-35 years who are currently studying or wish to pursue undergraduate studies at recognised and accredited institutions of higher learning (such as TVET Colleges, University of Technology and Private and Public Universities) in the following fields:

  •  Electrical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Human Resources Management
  • Media and Communications
  • Law
  • Financial Management
  • Internal Audit
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Risk Management

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen between the ages of 15-35 years.
  • Must not be funded or receiving financial assistance through a sponsorship or bursary scheme from any other institution or organisation.
  • Must be available for an interview when requested and be willing to sign a Bursary Agreement.
  • Must submit proof of registration/ admission. Must be eligible to study for the specified qualification at the relevant institution of higher learning.
  • For first-year applicants, Grade 11 results/Grade 12 mid-term results reflecting a minimum average of 65% must be submitted. All other applicants must provide their current academic record, reflecting a minimum average of 65% in the current year’s studies.
