Overview of UNISA Short Learning Programmes (SLPs)

The University of South Africa’s Short Learning Programmes are practical, skills-focused courses designed to equip students with essential knowledge in a chosen field quickly and effectively.

Unlike full qualifications, SLPs follow a “just enough” learning approach, focusing on targeted skills needed for specific professional or personal development goals. These programmes are ideal for:

  • Upskilling in your current profession
  • Meeting specific workplace requirements
  • Exploring a new career path

All SLPs are offered and managed by the UNISA Centre for Lifelong Learning in collaboration with UNISA’s academic departments.

Why Choose a UNISA Short Learning Programme?

  • Fast, focused learning – Gain practical skills in less time than a full qualification.
  • Affordable – More cost-effective compared to degree programmes.
  • Flexible – Designed for working professionals and those seeking career growth.
  • Recognised – Receive a certificate from UNISA upon completion.

Who Must Apply?

You must apply for admission if you are:

  • A first-time UNISA applicant
  • A current UNISA student wanting to switch to a new SLP
  • Someone who previously applied but did not get a placement
