uMngeni-uThukela Water: Water & Waste Water Treatment Learnership Programme Intake 2025

Programme Overview

This 12-month learnership will take place at the Richards Bay and Jozini Water Treatment Plants, located in KwaZulu-Natal’s North East Region.

Key details include:

  • Number of learners: 20 unemployed youth.
  • Entry requirement: Completed Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Structure: The programme combines classroom learning, workplace exposure, and practical assessments.
  • Outcome: On completion, learners will receive a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment Practice (NQF Level 2), a recognized qualification that opens doors to further education and employment.

Learners will also complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) as part of the assessment process.


Who Should Apply?

  • Have passed Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Are unemployed and between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Reside in deep rural areas within uMkhanyakude District or uMdoni Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Are motivated to build a career in water services, operations, or environmental management.

Important notes:

  • Applicants with qualifications at NQF Level 5 or higher are not eligible.
  • Young people living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Certified copy of Matric certificate showing passes in Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Certified copy of a valid South African ID.
  • Proof of residence (village applicants must provide a confirmation letter from the Traditional Authority Office – this will be verified).
  • Mid-term matric school report confirming they studied in the same district of residence.
  • A detailed CV.
  • A short motivation letter explaining why you should be selected.
  • An affidavit confirming unemployment status.

Only complete applications with recently certified documents will be considered.
