Due to the physical nature of the job (Physical operations and manoeuvring) incumbents of these
posts should be sufficiently physically able to perform their duties.
Job Purpose
Performs specific mechanical activities supporting the colleagues and immediate superior during
the maintenance and repair of vehicles and motorcycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares the workshop and workshop equipment (e.g. operating hydraulic ramp, hoist etc) for the servicing, maintenance, repair of vehicles, motorcycles.
- Checks the levels of all relevant items such oil, brake fluid, gearbox oil, diff oil etc.
- Removes wheels for brake / brake cylinder inspection.
- Changes and replaces / fits repaired tyres onto vehicles / motorcycles.
- Checks lights, indicators, brake lights etc.
- Assists with general repairs as well as servicing of motor vehicles.
- Complies with the provisions / prescriptions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- including the wearing of all relevant safety clothing, safety boots etc.
- Sweeps and general cleaning of the workshop as well as washing / cleaning new and used
- spares with the required liquids
Essential Requirements
- Grade 10.
- 3 Months relevant experience
Preferred Requirements
- Grade 12 or National Technical certificate (N3).
- 6 Months relevant experience
