Who Is Eligible to Apply?

- Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering, or a related field, with excellent academic records and relevant professional experience
- Have at least 1 year of paid employment in their home country or another African country, completed within the past 3 years after earning their bachelor’s degree
- Be 35 years old or younger, and in good health

- Not be currently enrolled in another graduate degree programme
- Hold citizenship of an African Development Bank regional member country
- Not be an Executive Director, alternate, or staff member of the African Development Bank Group, or a close relative of one, by blood or adoption

How the Application Process Works
Unlike most scholarships, JADS applications are not submitted directly to the African Development Bank. Instead, the process runs through the JADS partner universities.
- Request information and application forms directly from your chosen JADS partner university, using that university’s provided contacts
- Complete and submit your application for admission to that university’s approved master’s programme
- The university evaluates and selects applicants, issuing a provisional offer letter to successful candidates
- The university sends its list of selected candidates to the African Development Bank, which shares the list with the JADS Program Implementation Unit (PIU) for evaluation against the scholarship’s own criteria
- After evaluation, the African Development Bank contacts successful candidates directly and informs the relevant universities
Important Note on Admission vs Scholarship Award
Being admitted by a JADS partner university does not automatically mean you have been awarded the scholarship. Applicants should not take any action regarding their current employment, or otherwise make major life decisions, until they have been formally informed by the African Development Bank that they have been awarded the scholarship.
